Using this wiki
From Boston Neighborhood Map
I set this wiki up because I'm lazy to simplify discussion over which lines on the [Boston Neighborhoods Google Map should go where. Rather than checking a million comments at Universal Hub or answering a million emails, I think it would be better to discuss things in an area where anyone can view and contribute.
With that out the way, there are two major things to know before making edits here: how to text in the MediaWiki markup format, and how to follow the protocol for this wiki.

MediaWiki Markup
The software that this page runs on uses a special system to add formatting like internal links, external links, boldface, italics and other fun stuff. It's the same system that Wikipedia uses, so if you've ever edited that, you're all set.
There are lots of online guides to using MediaWiki markup, but 90% of it is just clicking the link that says "edit" and entering text. I wholeheartedly recommend diving right in and figuring out as you go along.
Editing
This is where it gets a little tricky—I'd like editors to try and not edit pages directly to add map corrections. Instead, I'd like to rely on using the talk pages, which are accessible using the "discussion" tab at the top of the page. The reason for this is to prevent battles over editing and re-editing pages. Let's argue on the talk page, come to a consensus, and then make the edit in the main section.
If no text currently exists on a neighborhood page, by all means add some. But try to describe what the map currently shows, and then add your suggestions on the talk page. This will make it easier to keep the map and the wiki in agreement, and up to date.
Feel free to correct typos, grammatical errors, ugly phrasing and other stylistic disasters as you see them.
New Pages
Users should also feel free to create new pages to cover neighborhoods or topics they think should be discussed. Please use the search bar on the left hand side of the screen to check to see if a page exists, and don't be hurt if I delete your page, or merge it into an existing one.
