Neighborhood definition

The term "neighborhood" used in this wiki and in the Boston Neighborhoods Google Map is defined technically as the largest possible subdivision of space within the City of Boston, below the city level.

That means if you said something was in a neighborhood, and someone asked you "where's that?" the next smallest unit you could give would be the City of Boston.

Examples

For example if I say that Fenway Park is in Fenway, and someone asks me "where's that?", I would have to say "Boston." There's no available unit between the two. This makes Fenway a neighborhood.

If I were to say that Boston College is in Chestnut Hill, and some asked me "where's that?", I could correctly say " Brighton", meaning that Chestnut Hill is not a neighborhood.

Important Notes

For the sake of convenience (and because it's what the parking signs say) Allston/Brighton and Fenway/Kenmore are treated as a single unit on this map.

I have set up pages for sub-neighborhoods in case anyone wants to discuss their borders or make a map of them. I'm really not that interested, though. I've also eschewed delineating the various districts in downtown because they are incredibly small and overlap a whole lot.
