Jamaica Plain

Jamaica Plain—or simply and more frequently JP—bills itself as the "original streetcar suburb" and is mostly a welcoming collection of odd-ball restaurants, kitschy and bomemian shops, and victorians/three-deckers in various stages of restoration. That, and the occasional factory and housing project.

People who live in JP identify very strongly with it, and I believe this has led to some expansion of th neighborhood beyond its logical borders. The place also identifies very strongly with the 02130 ZIP Code, which, as I've mentioned before, isn't always the most accurate system for neighborhood delineation.

That having been said, one of the major points of this project is to define where neighborhoods are in the present, rather than on no-longer-accurate historical lines. So I will entertain in full the (no doubt plentiful) arguments about why one place is or is not in JP.

These aren't really "neighborhoodable", since they were just space that never got populated and defined in that manner. That having been said, I understand they are now considered to be part of one or more adjacent neighborhoods. Your feedback as to where each belongs is greatly appreciated.
